It must have been something crooked that shall remain unnamed that brought back David Eugene Edwards, Hexvessel and Chelsea Wolfe in the same month, or maybe it was the Harvest Moon! The music that we enjoyed in September had more prominent rock elements than anything else but at the same time, the releases of last month moved away from rock rhythms by slowing them down, and infusing them with heaviness, distortion, ceremonial rhythms and some IDM elements too.
‘Hyacinth‘, the latest solo album by David Eugene Edwards was the album that we kept listening to on repeat, letting ourselves be carried away by the magnetic energy that each verse kept hidden within it until it was vocalised by Mr Edwards! The new album by The Wytches was another highlight of these monthly highlights as its motivating garage, shoegaze, post-punk songs made us actually slow down and appreciate every note and every vocal/instrumental distortion that made up its 10 songs.
Hexvessel‘s ‘Polar Veil‘ is an ode to frosty, remote, forests and landscapes and that’s all one needs to know about it! The best IDM album for quite some time now, has been produced by blac kolor and is entitled ‘weltenbrand‘. If you appreciate IDM with texture and an incredible rhythmic flow, you must not fail to give this album a proper listen!
We hope you enjoy the rest of our playlist as much as we did while preparing it!
