Monthly playlist-Favourite albums July 2022
If at the beginning of this playlist you are not drinking whiskey, then we are certain that you will be holding a glass of this potion towards the end. It starts with punk anger and feistiness, travels down a dark post-punk path, soothes the spirits with an indie rock plateau that explode into techno psychedelia before resolving into ceremonial sonic ritual.
Dear Darklings, we hope you are all doing splendid! Our playlist this month opens up with some serious punk aphorisms, which are later been picked up from the metal music releases that we loved. During July, not only did we have the return of the punk heretics VIAGRA BOYS with 'CAVE WORLD', but also that of Cabaret Voltaire's stephen mallinder who offered us 'tick tick tick . . .' an addictively minimal techno album. Speaking of returns, INTERPOL stroke again, four years after the release of 'Marauder' with a beautiful indie rock album entitled 'The Other Side of Make-Believe'. If you are a fan of experimental music then the releases of Blue Orchids, K.Leimer, Gerry Read, Patrick Conway, Ben Shemie and Temple of Clear Light will be able to satisfy all tastes spanning post-punk, ambient with modern classical elements, and the most obscure dark ambient ceremonial sonic universes.
We want to make a special mention to the debut release of a new project created by Liz Fraser and percussionist Damon Reece, named Sun's Signature. The return of Liz Fraser was a very well kept 'secret' but this release came to bridge the distance that her absence has created. We were delighted that the music of this album retained the ethereal elements of Fraser's vocals while at the same time stayed away from being a copy of This Mortal Coil's all familiar sound. We are now very eager to enjoy a live performance by Sun's Signature and we will be having this album on repeat until then.
